also known as a hypertext garden, a digital zettelkasten, or a second brain
A digital garden is a collection of notes created, curated, and cultivated by an individual. They are more than a personal wiki. They are a digital space for growing ideas, cultivating thoughts, and nurturing knowledge. Digital gardens are meant to be pruned, watered, and shared. They are always evolving, and they are never complete.
Modern Digital Garden’s take advantage of the Internet’s inate hypertext structure. They are interconnected, allowing for the exploration of ideas in a non-linear fashion. They are also open, allowing for collaboration and sharing. This is not much different from how your brain connects ideas, hence the commmon reference to a second brain.
My Digital Garden
I didn’t really buy into the whole idea when I heard about the zettelkasten, as it seemed like too much work to really set up beyond what I was already doing with my notes in Obsidian.
However, when I set up Quartz, all the heavy lifting was done for me, and I was left with a cool website design concept that I could and wanted to expand on, as it was now computer science related.
