While it isn’t exactly the new year yet, I thought I might get ahead and start brainstorming my resolutions for how I will approach the upcoming year.
Note-taking Habits
The year of 2024 has been a good one for my note-taking, as before this year I basically took little to no notes for my classes, and also wrote nothing for myself on my own time. In addition, I have gotten much, much faster at typing, and note-taking has never been easier. Nevertheless, there are some things I want to improve on in this upcoming year when it comes to this vault.
-
Daily notes
- I want to start properly taking daily notes as a diary again, which I started at the beginning of the year but didn’t end up continuing around the time I started the Quartz vault. This would be helpful in building the habit of just taking more notes on my everyday stuff in addition to my classes.
-
Utilizing the Kanban board
- I have a problem of making mental notes to do stuff, whether that be notes or projects or something else, and then not following up on them. My daily scheduler kanban board is a great solution to this, but I have not been utilizing it as much as I should, as it is a great way to keep track of ideas, both to start and unfinished ones, and this pairs well with obsidian’s note-linking functionality. I would like to encourage this by updating my kanban board every day, and it serves as a great way to manage my OCD-like idea tendencies.
-
Expanding upon my personal notes
- For the most part, all my notes are public facing in the fact that people can read them from the quartz website gassandrid.xyz, but I also have a Private folder which isn’t shared with the public and not on the repo at all. I want to expand on this section, so that I can use obsidian for more things in my life beyond the stuff that I would want other people being able to see, from simple things like totalists and daily notes.
Self Improvement
Self improvement has been something I have worked on for the past few years, but with the advances in productivity and structuring in my life that I have made with this vault, I see the potential to improve a lot more for myself both physically and mentally.
-
Skin
- It’s time to actually fix this problem for good. I have been doing just enough for my whole life so that I doesn’t kill me, but not enough for it ever to go away. This is such a trivial problem that I can fix if I just put in the effort, and it would make me feel worlds better about myself
-
My Chest Problem
- While I still am not sure( and neither are doctors, apparently ) what the problem is in my chest that causes me so much pain, I want 2025 to be the last year that I have to deal with it, as I am tired of living in constant pain regarding my skin and bones.
-
My physical fitness
- I am very happy that I started working out when I did, but 2025 is the time to take it to the next level. The two things I want to nail down are consistency and eating. My consistency is already fairly good, but I have been skipping on Saturdays which I don’t think helps long term, and all my progress is being drastically limited by my eating problems.
Projects, Passion, and Career
This comes down to what I love to do, whether that be engineering, computer science, or mathematics. This can be for either my own hobby stuff, or for advancing myself in my capabilities.
-
3D Printing
- I want to get into 3d printing for the sole reason that I am more of an engineer at heart than a software developer. I love computer science, but not for the idea of making software, and instead for solving problems in the way that they are most often presented to me. By getting into 3d printing I will finally be able to make good on a lot of my personal project promises, and also learn a lot about working with cad and design in the process.
- I also want this to tie into my work with embedded engineering and server work. In the future, I plan to use all of these for projects of mine like a full overhaul of the interior of my car, or maybe a sprinter van in the future!
-
The Math Behind AI
- I am already at a point where I am fairly confident working with libraries like TensorFlow and PyTorch, and understand what is going on from a very top down perspective. However,, I want to spend this year focusing on the core underlying principles of machine learning, meaning pairing a strong understanding of linear algebra with back propagation calculus and some data science.
-
Computational Neuroscience
- I am sure that this is not only where the field of Machine Learning is heading, but also where I am as well. I firmly believe the key to advancing the field of Artificial Intelligence is to better understand the human mind, and I want to work on that problem using my skills with computer science. Computational Neuroscience seems like the perfect intersection of that, and I will thus be investing my time in 2025 into learning this field.
