Hello! My name is Ewan

I am a second year student at the University Of Vermont studying Computer Science and robotics. I have a big passion and desire to specialize in Artificial Intelligence, Computational Neuroscience, and Mathematics. In addition I also enjoy a variety of other subtopics within Computer Science, such as embedded engineering and robotics.

Thoughts 🏡

I have really been focusing on my neuroscience research right now, the brain is quite an interesting system!

I am really liking the german word waldeinsamkeit

Investing in 3d printing and such, liking the idea of bringing the open-source/development cycle of software to the world of engineering.

give this song a listen to!

Current Projects 💾

DARS - Dormitory Automated Residential System

A model replica of TARS from interstellar, built for the purpose of mapping natural human language to discrete functional output through the use of LLM’s and microcontrollers.

Homelab - an evolution of DARS that interfaces the llm bindings I developed to control all my self hosted services in addition to my room.

About Me ⛵️

Outside of Computer Science, my main interests are Sailing, Fitness, and Woodwork/Engineering

Recently have picked up a habit of On Touch Typing, and have quickly become addicted MonkeyType, currently at 181 words per minute!

While I have spent most my life in the United States, I am actually a tri-citizen! I am South African, American, and British!

I love building and tinkering! While doing some construction work, I found a interest and skill in building my own things and projects!

I love to chat about philosophy! Let’s start a conversation!

About This Garden 🪴

This is my version of what is called a Digital Garden( and yes, every digital garden mentions what a digital garden is)

I started this as a way to organize my thoughts. My brain is all over the place, and it brings me great discomfort when I have an idea and am not able to act on it in that immediate moment. To solve this, I just write down just about any idea I can think of, and let the organization sort itself out naturally(thanks to links, discussed below).

My notes use 3 forms of organization to categorize my thoughts:

  • Folders are what you know from the filesystem, the most structured way of organization but often quite rigid. They are best for laying the groundwork of your notetaking journey.
  • Tags are the in between. They are much less structured than folders, as notes with a tag can be anywhere in the Garden regardless of folder. They are used for organizing by genre and topic, and provide a more flexible and dynamic structure.
  • Links are how your own brain organizes information. It has no initial structure, as it forms through the natural process of taking notes( say you are writing a note on Elephants, and you recall a time you saw elephants in South Africa, you would link them together). Links are great because it is your brains own innate organization of knowledge, but they take time to form and are difficult to create when you are just starting.

I have created Index pages for each method of organization.

There is a Folder Index, although there isn’t much to display as I only have 3 root folders.

You can view the Tags Index(also accesible via left sidebar for desktop users), which has a listing of all tags and their subtags(where some have have notes attached to them).

And for links I have created a starting point to navigate the vault, but this is somewhat difficult to traverse as I cant really control the structure(read here again). A better way to traverse links is with the Graph on the left sidebar(for desktop) or at the bottom of the page(for mobile/tablet). You can click the button at the top right of the graph to maximize it and explore the full garden.

You can also Search for notes/tags/folders using the Search button or CMD+K or CRTL+K.

try doing cmd + - or ctrl + - to view the sidebars!
